Design Custom Summary Table

This utility allows the user to create custom tables showing summaries of Major Presidential Disaster data.

The first step in building a summary table is to select the factors you want shown in the rows and columns. You need to decide the type of information you want displayed and whether you want that information or variable in a row or column tabulation. If one factor is specified for rows and another for columns, a cross tabulation is produced.

Select Row Data: Select Column Data:

The next step is to select the cell values. Cell values are of two main types. One is the number (N) of incidents (cases) and the other is the total federal cost (FEMA records) in 2006 constant dollars ($) for each declared incident. Sometimes it is worthwhile to view the percentage of incidents associated with the variable used in rows or columns. Row and column percentages can be calculated for costs as well and tabulated with row or column variables. There are then 6 possibilities for each cell value in the summary tables you may create.

Select Cell Values:
  Number of Incidents
Number of Incident, Row Percentages (read down)
Number of Incidents, Column Percentages (read across)
  Dollars
  Dollars, Row Percentages (read down)
  Dollars, Column Percentages (read across)

The selections below allow further qualification. One can partition the data limiting it to a certain period of years. One can restrict the summary table to a specific state. One can create a summary table focused upon one specific type of primary disaster agent (primary cause of disaster). One may ask that the summary table encompass a specific presidential administration. Or one could produce a table targeting a specific standard Federal Region of the U.S. These qualifiers allow you to produce a customized table of information. The default values are all years and all categories within each variable.

  Begin Year:
  End Year:
  Query A Particular State:
  Query A Particular Disaster Type:
  Query A Particular Presidential Administration:
  Query A Particular Region:

(Note: Some of the larger tables may take a couple minutes to draw.)
